Important Information about this Course:

Intermediate Level 2

This course is for a level 2 certificate in driving goods vehicles. On completion of this course you will have attained abilities and experience relevant to the job role in question, as outlined by the sector skills council. Learners participating in this course will prove you can not only drive correctly but prepare a vehicle beforehand. The course also covers correct methods of loading and unloading vehicles. You can also expect to learn about such things as contributing to customer service, dealing with payments, planning routes and other logistical operations. This course covers cycle/pedal cycle, van, rigid vehicle and articulated or drawbar type vehicles.

  • Courier
  • Large goods vehicle driver
  • Motorcycle courier
  • Van driver
Duration

The apprenticeship will take a minimum of 12 months to complete.

Entry Requirements

Apprentices must hold a valid UK driving licence, at least Category B (car driving licence) in order to access the apprenticeship.

Qualifications

The overall grade for this qualification is a ‘pass’. The learner must achieve all the required units within the specified qualification structure. To pass a unit the learner must:

  • achieve all the specified learning outcomes
  • satisfy all the assessment criteria by providing sufficient and valid evidence for each criterion
  • show that the evidence is their own.

The qualification is designed to be assessed:

  • in the workplace or
  • in conditions resembling the workplace, as specified in the Skills for Logistics Assessment Guidance for the sector, or
  • as part of a training programme.

Upon completion the learner will receive a level 2 qualification

Three Pathways
  • Van
  • Rigid Vehicle
  • Articulated or Drawbar Vehicle

During this pathway you will undertake a specially crafted course to learn to drive a Van.

The Mandatory Units are:
  • Unit 17- Prepare the Van for Driving
  • Unit 18- Protect the Van and the Load
  • Unit 19- Operate and Monitor the Van Systems
  • Unit 20- Manoeuvre the Van in Restricted Spaces
  • Unit 5- Obtain Information on the Collection and/or Delivery of Loads

Total Credits for these Units: 13

The Optional Units are:

At the start of the apprenticeship, the learner will pick optional units to the value of 16 credits from the optional units available.

Total Credits for these Units: 16

In this pathway you will undertake a specially crafted course to learn to drive a Rigid Vehicle.

The Mandatory Units are:
  • Unit 27- Prepare the Rigid Vehicle for Driving
  • Unit 28- Protect the Rigid Vehicle and the Load
  • Unit 29- Operate and Monitor the Rigid Vehicle Systems
  • Unit 30- Manoeuvre the Rigid Vehicle in Restricted Spaces
  • Unit 5- Obtain Information on the Collection and/or Delivery of Loads

Total Credits for these Units: 13

The Optional Units are:

At the start of the apprenticeship, the learner will pick optional units to the value of 16 credits from the optional units available.

In this pathway you will undertake a specially crafted course to learn to drive an Articulated or Drawbar Vehicle.

The Mandatory Units are:
  • Unit 39- Prepare the Articulated or drawbar Vehicle for Driving
  • Unit 40- Protect the Articulated or drawbar and the Load
  • Unit 41- Operate and Monitor the Articulated or drawbar Vehicle Systems
  • Unit 42- Manoeuvre the Articulated or drawbar Vehicle in Restricted Spaces
  • Unit 5- Obtain Information on the Collection and/or Delivery of Loads

Total Credits for these Units: 13
