Christmas Lights Turn On
It’s that time of year again and the festive season is upon us once more. Tis the season to curl up by the fire and spend time with family and friends. But there’s plenty of things to do out and about in Newcastle and the North-East this Christmas. So why not spend some time experiencing the culture Newcastle has to offer; such as Christmas markets, festive shows, Fenwick’s windows, ice skating and so much more. What better way to experience Christmas than joining the masses to see the lights turn on.
When is it?
On November the 7th you can see the annual turning on of the Christmas lights. Newcastle City Council has pulled out all the stops this year and secured the one and only Sam Fender to push the button. Sam fender has had a cracking year, winning the critics choice award at the 2019 brit awards. His album ‘Hypersonic missiles’ went to number one at the UK albums chart in September.
The event will also feature a special performance from Sam’s saxophonist Johnny ‘Blue Hat’ Davis and a special Pantomime performance from the cast of Aladdin at tyne theatre.
There will be over 230,000 lights illuminating Newcastle this year in festive goodness. You can expect about 5000 people to attend this event and enjoy an evening of family fun, Sing-along to all your favourite Christmas songs and enjoy lots of dancing.
So why don’t you jingle all the way over to Newcastle City Centre and join the festivities to really get you in the Christmas spirit this year? It’s sure to be fun and festive I can assure you ‘yule’ have a great time!
The event starts at 5.30 hosted by metro radios one Steve and Karen. The lights will be turned on at 6.30.
